If you are not already taking advantage of online bill paying, then you need to re-evaluate this and start doing it.  Here are the reasons why:

Convenience.  Long gone are the days of sitting down and writing out individual checks for every payment you make.  You save money by not having to buy checks as often, as well as the postage that it takes to mail the checks.  There are two possible exceptions to paying online. The first is for utilities.  Where there exists the possibility that if you do not pay and get a receipt for essential utilities for your home or you could be cut off, then a paper check with a receipt is in order.  The next is for items that have legal ramifications.  If a payment is required that is legally binding or as a result of a legal ruling, then a paper check is better.  Other than those two items, you should be fully engaged in paying bills online.

Speed.  With a few clicks of a mouse, you can burn through your payments in a very short time.  Paying online takes very little effort.

Security.  With the added security in PCs and websites and frankly the anonymity provided by the millions who pay bills online, security is no longer a major issue.  In fact, security in mailing payments through the postal service is just as vulnerable as paying online.

Tracking.  When you pay online, most financial institutions also provide you with a transaction number for tracking purposes.  It is just as easy to track these payments as it is to track a paper check.  Just be sure to keep these tracking numbers in a place where you can get to them if you find that you need them.

Scheduling.  One of the best features of all allows you to schedule your payments at the beginning of the month to be paid on the day of your choosing.  You should never be late on a payment again.  Think of what this will do for your credit rating.  No more forgetting to drop a payment off in the mail.

A smart and educated person will embrace online bill paying for these reasons.  This is one area that you need to make a part of your life.  If you do, you will live better because of it.
